Keeping Secrets From Mommy

by admin on May 11, 2010

Okay, I must admit . . . it is not okay to keep secrets from mommy.  But this weekend was Mother’s Day.  As the day approached, my wife made sure to let me know not to buy her any gift.  We got through this each year and I say the same thing at Father’s Day.  Even so, our daughter told my wife on Friday that she wanted to get flowers for Mother’s Day, but that it would be a secret.

When I got home from work on Friday, Audrey met me at the door to tell me that we were going to get flowers for mommy.  I agreed, but told her that we needed to keep it a “secret”.  She smiled the biggest smile I had ever seen.  She was soooo happy that we had a secret from mommy.  As a matter of fact, I would bring it up several times Friday evening and up until we purchased the flowers on Saturday—each time, even if it was in the presence of mommy, Audrey would get the biggest smile on her face and put her finger over her mouth to indicate our secret.

Each time she smiled, it warmed my heart.  I am glad that we chose to keep a secret from mommy!!

(P.S.  Jeana did get new patio furniture for Mother’s Day, too!!)

Sometimes you just need to play in the snow

by admin on February 11, 2010

It snowed today in Dallas.  I mean, it really snowed today in Dallas.  I’m not talking about a half inch of snow when everyone wakes up and tunes into the news to see if their office/school is delayed or closed.  I guess it started overnight, because when I left for work this morning snow had already accumulated on the ground.

Since it was a Thursday, I had to go to work.  I had to sell something.  After all,  I need to make money . . . snow or no snow.  On the way to work, I wondered what it would be like to play in the snow.

After a few hours at work, working on a couple of customer issues and listening in on a Social Networking conference call, I decided it was time to go home and play in the snow.

You can see the snow-woman that we built below.  How much fun! Snowball fights and snow-women with my daughter.  It was fun.  It was relaxing.  It was much-needed.

We get so caught up each and every day in what we need to get done and how we need to achieve our goals, that most of the time we overlook the needs right in front of our face.  I don’t know if my daughter and wife needed me to play in the snow with them, but I needed to play in the snow with them.   I feel much better.  I can conquer the world tomorrow.  I will finish the day watching Charlie Brown that we recorded last night.

Who new that Thursday’s could be such fun?

My Daughter Can Close Deals

February 9, 2010

Wow.  Have you imagined how much business you could close if only you were as persistent as your child? My daughter will not take no for an answer.  It is insane.  She knows that her persistence will not always get the answer she desires.  She knows that her persistence will get her into trouble in [...]
